Updated: 0244 on Fri 21 Nov 2008 UK Outlook for Wednesday 26 Nov 2008 to Friday 5 Dec 2008:This period's weather is expected to be dominated by high pressure southwest of the UK and low pressure to the north or northeast. Dry, bright cold conditions are expected across many southern parts on Wednesday, although the far southeast corner could still see wintry showers for a time. However a cloudy, milder type, with rain at times, is expected to spread steadily south and east later Wednesday and on Thursday. Following this a further change is expected to somewhat colder but still unsettled weather later in the week. This will bring gales, or even severe gales, to some areas, especially in the north. There are also likely to be squally showers and some of these could give snow, mainly in the north and on higher ground. Updated: 1202 on Fri 21 Nov 2008 Seasonal forecasting:Seasonal forecasting is a developing area of meteorology and, although these forecasts are not as accurate as our short-term forecasts, they do demonstrate some skill in predicting what may happen for a season (a three-month period) ahead. The forecasts provide an estimation of broad trends in temperature and rainfall and will normally be expressed in probabilistic terms, with the more likely outcome highlighted. Information contained in these forecasts can allow business to plan ahead for weather that is forecast to be different from normal.
