Spring 2007 forecast

Updated 2 May 2007

Background

This forecast for spring 2007 has been derived using global forecasting models and statistical methods. Seasonal trends usually affect large geographic areas, so the forecast for the UK is set in the broader picture of Europe as a whole.

Spring, in this context, is defined as the months of March, April and May; summer as June, July and August.

Spring 2007 forecast issued 11 April 2007

So far this spring, mean temperatures have been above normal and latest indications suggest that this is likely to continue for the remainder of spring.  Signals for precipitation continue to be mixed, with best estimates slightly favouring average rainfall.

For the UK as a whole, observed rainfall in March was close to normal. For April, new temperature records have been set across the UK. April was also a notably dry month for many regions.
