Inshore Waters Forecast

The inshore waters forecast issued by the Met Office, on behalf of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency

For coastal areas up to 12 miles offshore from Thursday 08 January 2009 at 0600 until Friday 09 January 2009 at 0600

Ridge of high pressure remains slow moving over England and Wales. Weak frontal troughs will affect northern Scotland at times.

From Cape Wrath to Rattray Head including Orkney - Strong winds are forecast
24 hour forecast: Southwesterly 5 or 6, occasionally 7 in north. Slight or moderate in south, rough in north. Occasional rain in north. Moderate or good.
Outlook:  Southwesterly 5 to 7, occasionally gale 8 in northwest. Slight or moderate in south, rough or very rough in north. Fair, then rain in northwest later. Moderate or good, occasionally poor in northwest later.

Rattray Head to Berwick on Tweed - Strong winds are forecast
24 hour forecast: Southwest 5 or 6, decreasing 4 at times. Slight or moderate. Mainly fair. Moderate or good.
Outlook:  Southwest 4 or 5 increasing 5 to 7. Slight or moderate, occasionally rough in north later. Mainly fair. Moderate or good.

Berwick on Tweed to Whitby
24 hour forecast: West or southwest 3 or 4, occasionally 5 in north. Slight or moderate. Mainly fair. Moderate or good.

Ardnamurchan Point to Cape Wrath including the Outer Hebrides - Strong winds are forecast
