Atlantic storms bring more unsettled weather

21 November 2006

Met Office forecasters are predicting a succession of Atlantic storms to add up to a very unsettled period of weather for the remainder of the week and the weekend.

On Wednesday, a weather front will bring more rain and showers to many areas and the unsettled weather is set to continue on Thursday as another Atlantic storm rushes in. This storm will bring severe gale force south-westerly winds to western parts of the UK, with gusts of 70 mph possible.

Further rain is expected on Friday before the next storm is expected to bring more severe gales and prolonged heavy rain to many parts of the country on Saturday, raising concerns over flooding in the worst hit areas.

Weather advice and warnings are always available on the Met Office web site and information on flooding is provided online by the Environment Agency and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency and also by ringing the Floodline number 0845 988 1188. Motorists are advised to get the latest travel information from the Highways Agency and Traffic Scotland.
